Believe it or not, drive in theaters still exist! And they are a perfect family destination for a nostalgic drive down movie theater lane. Drive ins have a lot to offer as a family outing compared to your traditional indoor movie theater multiplex. First and foremost, it is an adventure. You and the kids will have the opportunity to view a newly released movie but in completely unique setting. The cost of admission is considerably less than an indoor movie chain and you often get a group (car) rate. The seating is as comfortable as the vehicle you arrive in. And if you want more room, there is the option of watching the movie out under the stars. Unlike modern metroplex seating, there is LOTS of space between you and the next film goer, no sharing an arm rest with a stranger. There is also something about wandering among the cars to pick up food and drinks at the outdoor snack bar that can make for an memorable evening. In most drive ins, the movie plays rain or shine but with modern digital projectors, the picture quality remains high. One down side to this family outing is the start time; after dark which can mean closer to 9PM. But by the end of the movie, the late hour can make for a pleasant wind-down on the drive home. If you are lucky enough to have a drive in theater near you (and you can find one in your area by following this link) pack up the family and enjoy a movie on a seriously big screen.
